The blub for The Strange History of Possum Island Free State states:
“Sometimes you pick a place, and sometimes the place picks you.
Red Rigney was given five years to live. He didn’t expect to spend it living on Possum Island. But Possum Island had plans for Red Rigney.”

I read this in a single sitting. Loved it – just so Aussie in both tone and topic. Student squats in inner Sydney, the avant-garde arts scene, an island in the middle of the harbour, native title disputes, remnants of a convict past, the red tape of bureaucracy………. All so very familiar………
Slee sure knows how to tell a good yarn !
I will give it a read!

Remnants of a convict past. That is what I remember reading about your part of the world. They were send by Great Britain and then to the States. Between 1788-1868. Some believe 1 in 5 Australians is the descendant of a convict. This makes for interesting reading during these times.

Yes, built on the back of convicts. Makes us interesting 🙂
Enjoy your day and keep up the good work in your garden – looks lovely.

I might like to meet or at least read about some of those convicts. Some also made their way to the states.

More interesting, those convicts were here only 250 years ago. We are a very young country.

Unless stuff blows up, bad guys get shot up, and Sgt Rock steps in to save the day, then the book will gather mounds of dust if it even makes it to my bookshelf.

No guns, no car crashes, no espionage. No read. I am shortsighted when it comes to cultural awareness. 🙂

What? That is the trifecta of he-man macho reading.
