The A-Z Blogging Challenge commences on the 1st of April and I’m contemplating whether or not to participate. For those unfamiliar with this Challenge the idea is to select a theme and then every day of the month except Sunday post something pertaining to the topic starting with A on Day 1, proceeding right through the alphabet to Z.
It’s not as easy as it sounds. Regular posts are a challenge in themselves, at least for me, and you need to have a theme that retains interest.
Last year I celebrated some powerful Australian women, women who have achieved in so many different ways. This year I’m thinking a subject less heavy, more fun, though preferably still promoting Australia.
I’m still in contact with some of the bloggers from last years Challenge and talk about a diverse range of interests. I gained an education in folk stories, crystals, music, country towns and dogs all because I became involved.
Here’s a quick poll. If I participate what do you think would be the more interesting topic?
- Errol Flynn Facts and Fiction
- Australian Slang and Colloquialisms
- Australian Authors
- Australian Movies
- Forget it. Stay in bed for the whole of April

I would live to learn about local slang, I think that’s a great topic for the A to Z! , you could have a lot of different takes from short explanation, to using them in a story etc. It sounds like a really good idea!

Once WordPress becomes a “chore” with times expectations, it no longer becomes fun, it becomes work. My vote? No

Understand the logic. Having said that, I wash clothes every day, cook meals every, and keep the home fires burning. That ain’t fun but you keep doing it.

Okay now slang and colloquialisms has my attention! I absolutely love learning regional lingo! I know a good amount about Erroll 🤔 Mom was a big fan too!😂 Movies🤔 Australian film is one of my favorites, so yes! I officially cast my vote for slang and colloquialisms 😁❤️

I don’t find that the regular posting comes easily but I do like to promote Australia. It is amazing still how little people on the other side of the world know about the place. To be fair, one of my reading challenges covers books from other countries. It is been so interesting gaining an insight into the history of other parts of the world. Just read Mr Pip by Lloyd Jones based in Bougainville during their 1990s conflict.( movie starring Hugh Laurie). Just “up the road” from me but I was totally unaware. Wow.
Happy weekend, my friend🥂

The Aussie lingo is quite a mystery to me. Sometimes when I read your posts, I get a sense of what certain words mean. Other times, I don’t have a clue. However, anything you pick will be of interest to me. I would love to visit Australia some day.

I often have to refer to Dr Google about some of the pioneers and places you refer too, but that’s good. It means I’m learning from you. Just wish I could retain all that information:)

That is a good point. I will keep Dr. Google in mind.

I like 2, because I don’t know anything about that…but authors or actors could be fun too. It is a lot of work though…

Yeah, and I don’t mind hard work but time becomes an issue, doesn’t it?
Thanks for your input, LA.🙂

I vote for either number 3 or 4. I confess that I don’t know much about Australian authors or movies.

Do it! As for topics I think go for the easiest. Aussie slang would be fun. It depends what you are passionate about sounds like Errol Flynn is someone you know a lot about.
I’m going to do it but have only written three so far so am way behind my usual progress at this stage.

The Challenge seems to have snuck up on us this year, hasn’t it? Originally I was favouring Flynn – my boyo❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️- but he belongs to times long gone and even I have to move on….
I look forward to reading your posts again this year Linda. Good luck with the Challenge🥂

I vote for number two. We have long-time friends from Melbourne who now live in Santa Barbara, CA. I have been fascinated with their Australian sayings for years.

I hope your friends retain some of their Aussie sayings:)

They have! They also have to galahs.

Galahs are my favourite birds. Up until recently I always had a galah as a pet. I like your friends already!

Devastated. Errol didn’t get one vote.🥹

I vote for Australian Slang and Colloquialisms, particularly if you can throw any light on the derivation of the words you select. I mean, why are Sheilas called Sheilas, rather than, say, Kylies or Ednas?

Yes, I am hoping to include the history of certain phrases. Devastated Errol Flynn, the love of my life, did not receive one vote.
